TUT reaches out to the homeless during Covid-19
Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).
The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) has reached out to more than 600 homeless women and children, who are now more than ever affected due to Covid-19.
Staff members and students made generous donations to the Youth For Survival Centre based in Pretoria.
The centre helps women and children, who are survivors of gender-based violence and domestic abuse, and offers counselling, therapeutic support and skills development.
The university’s spokesperson, Siyabonga Ntamo, said that TUT’s united effort has made many wishes come true during a time when humanity is faced with an overbearing pandemic.

TUT donated blankets, food, mattresses, sanitary towels, microwaves, personal protective equipment (PPEs) and nappies for the infants under the care of the centre.
“It is always a blessing to be in a position where you are a blessing to others, especially when humanity is faced with such a challenge.
“This centre caters for a lot of homeless people, some of whom are walk-ins. We are truly humbled to be able to do this for other people and we know these products have longevity and they’ll be useful for some time to come,” said Ntamo.
“For us it was quite important to show that we believe charity begins at home and we must do so by extending a helping hand in all our immediate communities before going outside.”
The University also provided meals and food packs to aid the less fortunate
Moreover, TUT’s professor Khumulani Mpofu completed a 90km virtual Comrades Marathon, held on Youth Day, to raise funds in support of students in need of welfare assistance.
